MOS Burger (Public, TYO:8153) from the initial letters of "Mountain Ocean Sun", is a fast-food restaurant chain (fast-casual) that originated in Japan. It is now the second-largest fast-food franchise in Japan after McDonald's, and owns numerous overseas outlets over East Asia, including Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, and until 2005, Hawaii. It is also the name of the standard hamburger offered by the restaurant, being its first product when the restaurant was founded in 1972.
The Company operates in three business segments. The Mos Burger segment is involved in the operation of a restaurant chain, which sells hamburgers, rice burgers, chicken burgers, soup, drinks, patties, buns and potatoes under the name Mos Burger, the provision of food packaging materials, as well as the manufacture and sale of food such as patties and cheese. The Other Restaurant segment operates cafes, as well as restaurants which provide noodles, dumplings and seasonal cuisines. The Others segment is engaged in the hygiene inspection of food products, the lending business, the leasing of food manufacturing machinery and others, the insurance agency business, the manpower dispatching business, as well as the maintenance of restaurants. As of March 31, 2010, the Company had 24 subsidiaries and four associated companies.
