At Flakstadvåg in Senja we have been farming with salmon and trout since 1990). Here we operate six licenses in several locations on the Senjak Coast.
Sustainable value chain
We are committed to a sustainable value chain and healthy farming for salmon. Through Akvafarm and Br. Karlsen AS) we have excellent control over the salmon's origin, upbringing and feeding at all stages. This, our modern facilities and our perfect location in good natural areas - where the Gulf Stream gives us good water replacement and favorable temperatures, allows us to produce approximately 9000 tonnes of salmon of the highest quality annually.
The process
The process starts on land. Roe are fertilized in fresh water, eventually become fry and then smoldered. From Akvafarm we receive the smolten that is ready to be put into our seawater floods to become fully grown salmon. The whole process takes between 2- 2.5 years. The last step happens in our own slaughterhouse where we only spend a few hours processing and packing the fish to send it off. In other words, it takes a long time to produce the salmon, but a short time to get the freshest product out on the market.

Our dedicated staff are trained in the subject and have extensive experience. We are regularly trained to have the best, up-to-date knowledge of farming. The focus is to produce salmon with very good fish health in top quality - while also having cost effective production with good / low feed factor

We sell fresh whole salmon ourselves. Both to other exporters and Br. Karlsen's own factory for further processing of salmon products.
