Síldarvinnslan hf. is now one of the largest and most powerful fisheries companies in the country and bases its operations on over half a century of experience in fish processing and fishing. The company is the most active in Iceland in the field of fishing and processing of pelagic species and the largest producer of fishmeal and fish oil in the country.
The operations of Síldarvinnslan and associated companies are located in five places in the country, in addition to the United States and Greenland. The company's fishing rights are 32,400 cod equivalent tonnes in 2014 and 270 employees. The annual turnover in 2013 amounted to USD 194 million.
Síldarvinnslan operates a complete fish processing plant in Neskaupstaður that specializes in processing pelagic fish. The company also owns and operates three well-equipped fishmeal and fish oil factories; in Neskaupstaður, in Helguvík and in Seyðisfjörður. Síldarvinnslan also produces three pelagic vessels, one freezer trawler and one icefish trawler from Neskaupstaður and two icefish trawlers from the Westman Islands. The company also has a share in a fishing company in Akranes.
Síldarvinnslan operates the largest cold stores in the country in Neskaupstaður, with a total capacity of 20,000 tonnes. There is also an ice cream factory run by the company.
