Tethys Aquaculture Limited was established in 2011and its founders were Dr. Panos Christofilogiannis and Prof. Patrick Smith.
Patrick is one of the pioneers of commercial vaccines for fish with experience in both academic research and commercial development.
He began his career in Medical Immunology at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School and then moved to the government's Fish Diseases Laboratory. In 1982 he established his own company, Aquaculture Vaccines Ltd, which became the first company to develop commercial vaccines for the prevention of diseases in farmed fish. He is widely recognized internationally for his key role in vaccine development and for his services to the world aquaculture industry. Prior to his retirement he was Global Director of New Business Development/Discovery for Intervet Schering Plough Animal Health (Now MSD Animal Health) where he established close collaborative research links between industry and the academic sector. University of Stirling recently awarded Patrick with a Honorary Professorship in recognition of an outstanding contribution to fish immunology and long-term support of the Institute of Aquaculture.
