The first Captain D's opened in Donelson, TN in 1969 and was called Mr. D's. The goal then was to serve high quality, quick-service seafood. Fast forward to 40 years later, and Captain D's has grown to almost 600 restaurants in 23 states and several countries overseas.

December 20, 2017- Sentinel Capital Partners has acquired quick-service seafood chain Captain D’s from Centre Partners Management LLC, making it the fifth restaurant chain currently in the New York City-based private-equity firm’s portfolio. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
