The move will give the company breathing space as it attempts to turn around its fortunes.

Late May: Landings begin in earnest, demand is concentrated

[Miyagi] The average price of farmed coho salmon produced in Miyagi in late May (May 21-31) was 757 yen per kilogram. This is 1% higher (10 yen higher) than in mid-May. Landings have begun in earnest, with the total landing volume over a 10-day period exceeding 1,000 tons for the first time this season. However, with the season's cumulative production expected to fall short of the previous period, buyers' desire to purchase was stronger than usual, resulting in concentrated demand. The market price continued to rise.

The average size in late May was 1.5-2 kilograms per fish. Landing volume was 1,368, down 20% from the same period last year.

First bid in Busan: L size for sale at 3,900 yen

The first bid for new Russian frozen snow crab (Opilio species) in 2024 was held on the 3rd in Busan, South Korea. According to several trading companies, 189 tons of air-blast frozen boiled section products (single price for L-4L sizes) were up for bid.

The entire amount was sold, and the winning bid price is thought to have been 22.8-22.5 dollars per kilogram, 50% higher than the same period last year. According to several trading companies, the domestic sales price (trading company price) for L-size (5 kg box) was 80% higher than the same period last year.

Aquaculture is emerging activity providing new opportunities to the rural population in the country and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to its diverse ecological zones has an edge over other provinces.

Talking to APP, Omar Hayat Khan, a noted expert on fisheries and aquaculture said that the availability of different ecological temperature zones with land, water and human resource provide an edge to develop aquaculture as a sub sector of agriculture.

He said that the untapped renewable aquatic resource provides ample opportunities to develop export led interventions in aquaculture in the province. The untapped potential can provide employment opportunities to youth in rural areas and also provide to meet the millennium goals to which Pakistan is a signatory.

The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (pictured) has invested millions of rupees to develop hatcheries of the carp and trout fishes. But now they need further improvements to cater to the need of private sector. Adequate opportunities are available to attract foreign direct investment in the field of new technologies and new fish products which are in high demand in the foreign markets such as warm water Grouper fish.[...]
