ARGENTINA

El astillero marplatense celebró el bautismo del B/P 'Leonilda', un pesquero costero de su nueva serie de prototipos, que operará en Rawson para el Grupo Veraz en reemplazo del B/P/ 'Virgen del Milagro'.
"Argentina has always been a land of wealth and opportunity, but also of the destruction of dreams,” said Domingo Contessi, president of the shipyard. Although the Undersecretary of Fisheries, Juan Antonio López Cazorla, was present, he preferred not to speak publicly, reports Roberto Garrone of Revista Puerto.
The launching ceremony was imbued with a special energy, perhaps because of the sunny day or because of the court ruling granting the renewal for 15 years of the hake quotas (merluza hubbsi). The presence of Don Federico and Leonilda's great-granddaughters, who acted as godmothers of the ship, added a personal touch, symbolizing hope and continuity.

Un hito histórico
Coinciding with the 150th anniversary of Mar del Plata, the shipyard's launch for 150 years highlights the intertwined histories of the city and the Contessi family business, which has been a cornerstone of the community for 75 years.
The Leonilda represents an evolution of the Espartano, one of the main shrimp fishing vessels in the fleet. With capacity for 1,700-1,800 shrimp boxes, the new design reflects both innovation and functionality. Contessi Shipyard has already begun construction of three identical vessels, scheduled for delivery next year, one of them destined for the Vestutti family.

Innovaciones técnicas
Domingo Contessi praised the work of the technical team to improve a proven design. Modifications include relocating the exhaust systems to the aft gantry and replacing the central gantry with a pole anchor on the aft gantry. In addition, the Leonilda features fireproof interior panels imported from Spain, a bow thruster and an unpainted aluminum wheelhouse for a natural, polished finish.
Structural upgrades improve functionality and aesthetics, including a refined bow profile and adjustments to ballast placement. The design retains key features such as an inverted bow and low draft, while introducing a 360-degree view from the captain's cabin.
