A Little Bit Of History About What Many Still Call
"The Cannery Restaurant"

Recently renovated with an entirely new kitchen, extended bar and new formal dining room, "The Cannery Restaurant", as it is still referred to in these parts, is quite a dining experience! The building indeed was once a canning factory, traditionally set on a wooden wharf. As local herring supplies lessened and foreign competition increased, the old sardine canneries closed down and were abandoned. About 30 years ago the main factory building was converted into an incredibly successful restaurant. "The Cannery" was known far and wide for its great food and incredible location - on a historic sardine wharf, extending out into Passamaquaoddy Bay. The Cannery Restaurant last closed seven years ago. It will open this June as the Eastport Lobster and Fish House.

About The Exciting New And
Improved Restaurant Facility

Much has been maintained from the earlier operation - but much is new. The main structure has two floors - formal dining on the top, and a bar and cocktail lounge on the bottom. The cocktail lounge also receives full dining service and has a baby grand piano played by a local maestro Friday and Saturday nights. Other live music may also be heard on selective weekends throughout the summer, either in the lounge or on the wharf. Both floors have magnificent views of Indian Island, Deer Island, Cherry Island and Campobello Island, New Brunswick. You can also enjoy full service dining in the open sea air at a table on our wharf.

About The Phenomenal Food -
You Can't Get It Better Or Fresher!

Enjoy lobster and seafood as fresh as you can get it! Our boats bring in their daily catch in just enough time for our skilled chefs to prepare it. An emphasis is placed upon simple preparation - using only those spices, herbs and sauces with techinques which gently enhance the flavor of fresh seafood - not smother it. Lobsters come in sizes from 1 1/4 lbs. to 3 1/4 lbs. Try our hot smoked salmon (farm raised, locally) as an appetizer, or our chef's special - Bay of Fundy Bouillabaisse!

Our vegetables are grown locally and organically. Again, they are picked right before they are brought into the kitchen, to be served as quickly as possible. We serve mesclun greens as our house salad and fresh onions, corn and Maine potatoes in our chowders and bisques.

Porterhouse steaks, chicken dishes, specialty pastas of the day and other grilled vegetarian dishes supplement our predominently seafood menu. Enjoy our substantial wine and beer list including Bolla as our house white and red Guinness and Sam Adams on draught. And of course, we have all your favorite cocktails and spirits.

Hours
We are open 7 days a week from 11:30 am to 9:00 pm - sometimes later.

Excursions From The Wharf
And Other Things To Do

Whale watching and charter boats are available from our wharf. The ferry to Deer Island, New Brunswick, with connections to Campobello Island, is next door (you'll see it through the window). Box lunches can be prepared according to your needs. Be sure to save some time to walk on our wharf and visit The Whistling Pig Gift Shop and The Trap & Buoy Shop! Downtown Eastport is only a short walk down Water Street.
