A US federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit alleging that Costco Wholesale Corp. had knowingly sold frozen prawns whose cultivation involved forced labour in Thailand.
In the recitals to the judgment, Judge Jeffrey White stated that the promoters of the demand failed to establish that the company had a duty to disclose the information about labour abuses in its supply chain, Reuters informed.
The lawsuit, which was filed in 2015, claimed that Costco was aware the prawns it bought from its Southeast Asian producers came from a supply chain dependent on ships involved in human trafficking and labour abuses.
The case was filed by club member Monica Sud, a California resident, as a proposed class-action lawsuit, which argued it could affect millions of customers in her state.
