Camil Alimentos acquired Coqueiro seafood company in order to diversify its production further, which so far has concentrated mostly on rice and beans.
Camil participated in the fish sector through the brands Alcyon and Pescador.
Up to the moment the amount invested in the purchase of the brand and of the two fish processing factories owned by Coqueiro in São Gonçalo (Rio de Janeiro) and in Itajai (Santa Catarina) has not been communicated.
This operation will allow Camil Alimentos to incorporate around 1,500 employees.
Today, "the grain sector represents 80 per cent of the company business and with this negotiation, the fish sector will have to represent 30 per cent of Camil’s business within five years," pointed out the firm in a release.
