COMPANY PROFILE
Transafrica Fisheries Limited was established in 1983 catering mainly
for the domestic market. The Company entered the European Market as the
demand increased for "Lates Niloticus ", popularly known as,
Victoria Nile Perch. The company's stringent hygienic conditions and quality
control standards resulted in Transafrica fisheries Ltd being one of the
leading companies in export to the European Union. In 1995 the company's
management decided to diversify from lake products to sea products. This
was due to the company's location, in the coastal town of Mombasa, and
the long distance to reach the clear waters of Lake Victoria. In 1996,
to conform with E.U standards, Transafrica Fisheries built a new ultra
modern factory with a fully equipped laboratory and was allocated with
the E.E.C. number KEN/TA/MSA/06.
THE PRODUCT
Presently Transafrica Fisheries Ltd deals with only sea products, namely
Octopus, Cuttlefish, Squids, Crabs and Lobsters, from the unpolluted waters
of the Indian Ocean. These, sea water marine products, have an unique and
delicate taste which has so willingly fulfilled many obstinate palates.
THE PRODUCTION
The Transafrica Fisheries Fleet of fishing boats go fishing very early,
every morning, to catch by conventional methods including nets and fishing
lines. They return by early afternoon, so as to bring fresh products on
daily basis. The days' catch is then placed in insulated boxes containing
ice to maintain freshness and quality. On reaching the landing beach the
Transafrica Fisheries insulated trucks await with ice, to collect and transport
the products to the factory. On arrival the products are checked by the
quality controller for its freshness and quality. Each process from arrival
to final packing undergoes rigorous quality analysis carried out in the
factory's laboratory. The factory implements the HACCP (Hazard Analysis
Critical Control Points) for quality control.
