Company Overview

Sco-Fro is a privately owned business which was established in 1975 by Stanley Bernard, its Managing Director. The business is a leading player in the selling and marketing of foodstuffs with a current year group turnover expected to exceed £27m. The company's export successes have been recognised by the Queen's Award for Export Achievement and other export awards.

The business which has its Head Office in Glasgow operates two divisions covering seafood and grocery products.

There are also two main subsidiary / associate companies as follows:

    •Sco-Fro (Lochaber) Ltd - Based in Fort William and involved in processing of Whole Scampi (Langoustine) for Export and other "added value" seafood.
Currently employs 55 people.
Operations Director - Dick Wailes.
     
    •Galloway Seafoods Ltd - Based in Newton Stewart and involved in the manufacture of Breaded Scampi and "added value" seafood products for the domestic market.
Currently employs 53 people.
Operations Director - Doug Wright.
     

The company also has a buying office in Bangkok run by Ken Khorana. This office acts as a link to our Far East suppliers and also co-ordinates Sco-Fro customer visits to our suppliers factories.

Seafood Division

Main products

Whole Scampi, Breaded Scampi, and added value Seafood products, Surimi (sea sticks), Scallops, Warm Water Shrimp and Salmon.

Main customers

Supermarkets and major Food Service distributors in the UK and Europe.

Main Suppliers

Aforementioned subsidiary / associate companies (Scampi, Salmon and added value products). Far East manufacturer (Surimi). Dutch processor in which Sco-Fro has a financial interest (Warm Water Shrimp).

Grocery Division

Main products

Canned goods, instant noodles, dried pasta, sauces and yoghurt drinks.

Main customers

Major multiple retailers and discount supermarkets.

Exclusive suppliers

Italian manufacturer (canned goods).This supplier is a leading manufacturer of canned goods in the Italian market operating from modern production facilities designed to meet the highest QC standards. The factory is accredited under ISO 9002.

Far East Manufacturer (Noodles). This supplier is one of the best noodle manufacturers in Malaysia, operating from a modern, well-equipped factory. They have a HACCP system in place and hope to introduce ISO 9002 in the future.

Further Exclusive supply contracts have been finalised during 1997 with a major dried pasta manufacturer in Italy, a chilled sauce manufacturer in Scotland with which we have a joint venture to supply ethnic sauces to the major UK multiples and a leading dairy drinks company in Belgium.

Product Development, Sales and Marketing

Sco-Fro is proud of its technical department which plays a key part in servicing the requirements of our customers. It encompasses supervising quality control, supplier due diligence and new product development.

The company invests heavily in the selling, marketing and development of its product range. Regular contact with both customers and suppliers is essential and this contact is developed and maintained from exhibiting regularly at international Food Exhibitions in Europe and the UK.

Addionally we support local athletes having sponsored Lochaber Atheletic Club including special support for their member Hilary Searle, who finished third in the gruelling 26 mile Everest Marathon in the Himalayas to raise money for medical and educational projects in Nepal.

We also sponsor international racing driver Allan McNish who comes from Dumfries beside our Galloway Seafoods factory. Allan has featured in several Sco-Fro consumer and trade promotions. He has enjoyed considerable motor sport success and is presently driving for the Porsche factory team competing this year in several rounds of the world-wide FIA GT championship.

Financial Systems

The company has developed sophisticated IT systems incorporating strong financial controls to monitor all areas of the business. Considerable investment has been undertaken in its systems and this process is ongoing with current projects including sophisticated foreign currency monitoring, EDI order processing and extensive use of the Internet.
