In the beginning of the seventies, a young man arrives in Guayaquil after graduating from school at the UNAM, Universidad Autonoma de Mexico.

This young man, Medardo Cevallos Balda, with Cardiology degree and a dream in his mind, starts his work in the Guayaquil Clinic with Dr. Gilvert and in a few years time he is recognized as a great specialist.

But his heart was still longing for his home province, Manabi.

That is why he becomes the first boat owner cardiologist in the country in 1968, and in 1975 he decides to return with his family to the land his ancestors has occupied for five generations.

His tenacity and rectitude led him to occupy the provintial prefect's office in 1977 and he is appointed governor of the province a year later. He is recognized and repected. Fortune grows in the pass of years. Ships with steel hulls begins to appear in Manrta, altrough for him, his family is the greatest treasure. His sons travel to the best American universities and start to return to Manta in the middle eighties.

But in those years, adversity strikes. Fish banks have gone far into the Ocean and so dreams and ilusions also go away.

His courage an integrity are put to test. Five years would pass where his only support is his family and so, in a consonant way, they manage to carry on.

With only one ship, a shrimp lab and a small pacling company they obtained a contract with the United Satates and in 1989 the first seafood cargo sets off, and with it, hope for their future.

Today, the tree has produced its fruits. Seventeen companies, grouped in the finantial and insurance, industrial, commercial, transport and comunications division are succesfully led by his sons and that young Manabi boy with a load of years upon him, makes his dream come true : a Cardiologic Research Foundation, wich is today'y Ecuadorian pride to the world.
