The Norwegian company seals a 55 million kroner agreement with First Water to equip its terrestrial recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) plant in Þorlákshöfn.

The company Overhalla Betongbygg AS has signed a major contract worth 55 million Norwegian kroner (NOK) —equivalent to approximately 5.68 million US dollars (US$)— with the Icelandic land-based fish farmer First Water. The agreement includes the delivery of prefabricated concrete elements destined for the final part of phase 1 of the new land-based salmon farming facility (RAS) that the Icelandic firm operates in Þorlákshöfn, Iceland.

The delivery will have a total weight of approximately 4,300 tonnes and will consist of eight large fish tanks, each with a diameter of 28 meters and a height of 9.5 meters. These structures will each hold around 5,600 cubic meters (m³) of water. The elements will be manufactured in Overhalla, with delivery scheduled for early 2027.

For Overhalla Betongbygg, this contract represents more than a large single delivery. It is a clear example of how technical expertise, industrial workplaces, and production capacity from Namdalen and Trøndelag can stand out in demanding international projects.

"This is a contract we are proud of. It shows that Norwegian industrial expertise and prefabricated concrete solutions from Overhalla are competitive also outside the country's borders. For its part, First Water is a groundbreaking land-based aquaculture project (RAS) in Iceland, designed to set a new standard for sustainable seafood production.

Both companies have worked closely together for a long time to ensure good technical solutions and safe implementation.

"This has been crucial for us to succeed together on such a project," says Rasmus Bolkan, Sales Manager at Aqua in Overhalla Betongbygg AS.

The project places high demands on planning, quality, production, transport, and interaction between the parties. Logistics and precision become an essential part of the delivery when 4,300 tonnes of concrete elements are to be transported by sea from Norway to Iceland.

The contract also underlines the role Overhalla Betongbygg wants to maintain in the development of future land-based facilities (RAS). Land-based farming requires robust, durable, and efficient building solutions, and precast concrete makes it possible to combine high quality with fast and controlled implementation on site.
