The shrimp sector reinforces its promotional strategy inside and outside the country, preparing commercial rounds in Europe and Asia, in addition to its participation in the international fair Argentina Alimenta.

The Argentine fishing sector, and in particular the shrimp (Pleoticus muelleri) sector, is intensifying its efforts to gain a presence in international markets and highlight the value of wild and natural shrimp, with the aim of obtaining a price commensurate with its quality and leveraging the certifications that the fishery has achieved, according to Revista Puerto. Along this path, the chambers representing the freezer vessel companies —the Argentine Patagonian Chamber of Fishing Industries (CAPIP) and the Chamber of Freezer Fishing Vessel Owners of Argentina (CAPeCA)— are moving forward with the backing of public and private organizations coordinating promotional actions.

The first appointment will be in Europe. The Argentine Investment and International Trade Agency (PromArgentina) will organize Argentina Week in Paris between September 30 and October 2, with the purpose of promoting Argentine exports and attracting investment. Within this framework, the agency proposed to CAPIP to hold a specific shrimp promotion activity on October 2, in the form of a reverse trade mission: bringing together major European importers and commercialization channels in the same space to meet with a delegation of companies from the chamber. The invitation was formalized by the executive president of PromArgentina, Diego Sucalesca, to the head of CAPIP, Agustín de la Fuente.

The strategy does not stop in Europe. The same agency is preparing an Argentine Shrimp Week in China and Japan, two of the world's largest importers of seafood. The initiative is part of a promotional model that PromArgentina has already tested with beef —through the Argentine Beef Week in the United States— and now seeks to replicate in other sectors, using one-on-one business matchmaking and prior commercial intelligence to connect exporters with specific buyers.

The appeal of these destinations lies in the volume they handle. According to data from PromArgentina, China imports shrimp worth approximately 8,200 million dollars annually, with Argentina as the fifth largest supplier at 372 million dollars, well behind Ecuador, the leading supplier, whose farmed shrimp competes with lower prices. Faced with this product, the Argentine sector aims to differentiate itself through the attributes of wild shrimp —natural quality and flavor— as a selling point in premium markets. Japan, for its part, imports around 3,600 million dollars. The gap between what these markets purchase and what Argentina currently places is precisely the margin that the sector seeks to exploit.

Looking toward the domestic market with a global projection, the fishing industry will also participate in Argentina Alimenta, the first international food industry fair, to be held from November 17 to 19 at the La Rural fairgrounds in Buenos Aires. The event, organized by La Rural together with Fira Barcelona, the Coordinator of Food Products Industries (COPAL), and PromArgentina, will bring together more than 300 exhibitors and anticipates business rounds with international buyers, panels, workshops, and tasting spaces.

The presentation of the fair included the participation of CAPeCA and the Undersecretary of Fisheries, Juan Antonio López Cazorla, who called on fishing companies to join under the identity "Mar Argentino, salvaje y austral" (Argentine Sea, wild and southern).

In this arena, the fishing initiative will seek to repeat a successful past experience: the shrimp tasting that served as a letter of introduction at the Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, led by the renowned chef Patricio Negro. The combination of commercial promotion and product experience thus emerges as the core of a strategy aimed at ensuring Argentine shrimp wins the place its quality demands in the most exclusive restaurants, hotels, and retail shelves worldwide.
