Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of fisheries is based on mutual interest and long-term perspective. In general, the strategic partnership between Russia and China is actively developing, relying on many years of good-neighborly relations.

In 2023, agricultural trade turnover between China and Russia increased by 33%, amounting to more than 11 billion US dollars. In particular, China increased its purchases of Russian fish by more than 36%.

Last year, China imported 1.29 million tons of seafood, a historical maximum.emphasizedVice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Zhang Guoqing at the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Chinese Commission on Cooperation and Development of the Russian Far East and the Northeast of the People's Republic of China. Deputy Prime Minister and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russia in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev noted the good dynamics of economic growth in our countries.

Over the past few years, China has been the largest consumer of Russian fish products, accounting for approximately 50% of exports.

According to Chinese customs statistics, 1.29 million tons of fish products were exported from Russia in 2023 (36.1% more than in the same period in 2022), worth $2.89 billion (+ 4.88%). In the first five months of 2024, 522.64 thousand tons of fish products were delivered to China - practically at the same level as last year.

The main fish exports to China are pollock (about 60% of the total), herring, sardines, fishmeal and crab.

In 2023, the first Russian crab festival was held in Shanghai, aimed at popularizing seafood from the Russian Federation. Currently, Russian fishing companies are promoting crab products on the Chinese market, creating a new consumer segment, since China is traditionally a consumer of live crab.

In 2023, Far Eastern crab supplies to China amounted to more than 12.5 thousand tons. In 2024, the export volume increased by 10%. Live crabs also have positive growth dynamics in value and reached USD 461.3 million, which is 29% (+ USD 103.7 million) more than a year earlier.

The main importers of Russian fish products are: China, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, Japan, Nigeria, Germany. Among the new countries are: Albania, Angola, Bangladesh, Vanuatu, Guyana, Qatar, Liberia, Morocco, Niger, Palau, Panama, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Montenegro, Chile, South Africa.
