National Fishing Industry Shows Resilience with Substantial Gains in Pollock and Herring

According to the latest data from the Federal Agency for Fisheries(Rosrybolovstvo) industry monitoring system (Federal Service for Fisheries), Russian fishing vessels have demonstrated strong performance through the first third of the year. As of May 4, 2026, the total catch of aquatic bioresources by all Russian users has exceeded 1,796.8 thousand tons.

The figures highlight a steady extraction rate across several key maritime regions, with specific basins showing notable growth compared to previous years.

Regional Breakdown of the 2026 Harvest

The fishing operations are categorized by independent basins, each contributing significantly to the national food security:

  • ar Eastern Fishery Basin: This region remains the powerhouse of the industry with a total of 1,489.5 thousand tons. The haul is dominated by pollock at 1,066.5 thousand tons, followed by Pacific herring at 253.6 thousand tons (an increase of 1.7 thousand tons over the 2025 level). Other key species include cod at 50.1 thousand tons and Far Eastern flounder at 22.6 thousand tons.

  • Northern Fishery Basin: Totaling 123.5 thousand tons, this basin saw a significant uptick in certain species. While cod accounted for 62.1 thousand tons, the haddock catch reached 30.9 thousand tons, marking a jump of 9.1 thousand tons compared to the 2025 level.
