The "MAM 010: Artisanal Fisherman with Accredited Experience" course, currently 14 hours, facilitates obtaining the Artisanal Fisherman Card, opening greater development opportunities for the sector.
Lima – The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE), through the National Fisheries Development Fund (FONDEPES), is actively promoting the formalization and training of the country's artisanal fishermen by extending the free course "Maritime Authority Model (MAM) 010: Artisanal Fisherman with Accredited Experience" until the end of September 2025.

This course, currently lasting 14 academic hours, is a fundamental requirement to obtain the Artisanal Fisherman Card, an official document that accredits the formality of personnel dedicated to fishing. To access this card, in addition to passing the MAM 010 course, fishermen must have a medical certificate of physical and mental fitness.
The Vice Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Jesús Barrientos, highlighted the importance of this initiative: "The Artisanal Fisherman Card accredits the experience and skills of our seafaring men and women. Furthermore, it allows them to access more development opportunities, such as financing through FONDEPES and government support programs in exceptional situations. From PRODUCE, we will continue to promote the training and formalization of this sector, which is so important for the country's economy and food security."
According to Directorial Resolution No. 280-2025-MGP/DICAPI, published by the General Directorate of Captaincies and Coast Guards of Peru, the MAM 010 course will maintain its current duration of 14 academic hours – equivalent to approximately 3 days of instruction – until the end of September 2025.

This legal provision, issued on April 3, 2025, grants a period of six months to aquatic training centers and/or aquatic training and education centers to continue teaching the National Maritime Authority model course MAM 010 "Artisanal Fisherman with Accredited Experience" under its current format.
It is important to note that, once this deadline expires, the new provisions established in Directorial Resolution No. 1052-2024-MGP/DICAPI will apply. According to this regulation, the MAM 010 "Artisanal Fisherman" Course will undergo a significant expansion to 105 theoretical-practical hours, which will translate into an instruction period of at least 14 days.

This temporary extension of the course in its current format represents a valuable opportunity for artisanal fishermen to formalize their situation and access the associated benefits before the entry into force of the new regulations with a longer duration. PRODUCE reaffirms its commitment to the development and formalization of the artisanal fishing sector through these training initiatives.
