The fourth in the series of ten trawlers on the way for Russian fishing company Norebo has been launched at the Severnaya (Northern) shipyard in St Petersburg, with the event attended by numerous dignitaries.

Kapitan Breichmann is the fourth of six 82-metre vessels intended for fishing in northern waters, while a further four will be heading for fisheries in the Far East of Russia. These Nautic Rus-designed vessels are all being built under the Russian government’s investment quotas programme.

The launch was attended by Federal Fisheries Agency head Ilya Shestakov, United Shipbuilding Corporation chairman Georgy Poltavchenko, Severnaya Verf’s general director Igor Orlov and Andrey Gulyaev, general director of Norebo company Murmansk Provincial Fleet.

Kapitan Breichmann now joins Kapitan Sokolov, Kapitan Geller and Kapitan Ostashkov at the yard’s quayside for further outfitting. All are named after leading fishing industry figures.

‘It is important that with the names of these vessel we pay tribute to the skippers who once glorified the Soviet fishing fleet. It is very important to continue the tradition for our youth to set the best example,’ said Ilya Shestakov, commenting further to say that around a hundred fishing vessels are currently being built Russian shipyards to renew the fleet.

‘It is very important that despite any sanctions, we continue to upgrade the fleet. This is one of the most modern fishing vessels in the world. It can process catches on board without waste and, of course, working conditions, most importantly, will be excellent. I am sure that we will see each other soon at the raising of the Russian flag on this trawler,’ Ilya Shestakov said.

Kapitan Breichmann is designed to operate on demersal species in the North Atlantic, producing up to 40 tonnes of cod and haddock fillets per day, as well fishmeal, fish oil and canned cod liver.

The first trawler in the series, Kapitan Sokolov, is expected to be completed and delivered too Norebo later this year.
