Wednesday, May 25, 2022, 07:10 (GMT + 9)

It will be until November 30, 2022 for frozen hake exported from companies in Argentina. They warn that they will reject lots with the presence of 4 or more visible encapsulated parasites with more than 3 mm in diameter per kilo of sample or the presence of 2 non-encapsulated parasites with more than 10 mm per kilo.

The Directorate of the Department of Inspection of Products of Animal Origin (DIPOA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil (MAPA) announced, this Thursday, a new administrative measure through which certain sanitary requirements are extended on the Presence of parasites in frozen hake products from exports of Argentine fishing companies.

Through Circular No. 23 of 2022 and with the signature of the director of the Department of Inspection of Products of Animal Origin, Ana Lúcia de Paula Viana, the "reinspection of imported fish" was communicated, indicating that there has been into consideration "the technical discussions that have taken place between the official inspection agencies of Brazil and Argentina", and Circular No. 15/22 is replaced by which Brazil "flexibilizes" for 60 days the entry of Argentine hake, which is made known in the framework of the commercial mission that Argentine officials and businessmen carried out last April in Brasilia and São Paulo.

That measure was valid until June 5, and now it has been decided to extend it for another six months.

The Brazilian animal health authority bases the measure in which there is a "schedule of technical visits to Mar del Plata, so that DIPOA technicians can verify the procedures carried out by vessels, establishments on land and SENASA regarding the control of parasites in hake"

Hardened controls

Another argument put forward for the extension has been "the issuance by SENASA of document ME-2022-45676390-APN-DIYCPOA#SENASA, which establishes reinforced measures for the control of parasites based on international standards and the 'Codex Alimentarius ' for establishments and guidelines for SENASA inspectors, especially in hake exports to Brazil”, indicates the administrative instrument to which REVISTA PUERTO had access.

Until November 30

In this framework, it is resolved by the Department of Inspection of Products of Animal Origin (DIPOA) and the Directorate of the Department of Technical Services (DTEC) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil (MAPA) "to expand, exclusively for hake frozen, originating from qualified Argentine establishments, with qualification, received and re-inspected until November 30, 2022”.

Rejection criteria

On the other hand, the following criteria for the rejection of lots were detailed: "The presence of four or more visible encapsulated parasites with more than 3 mm in diameter per kilogram of sample or the presence of two non-encapsulated parasites with more than 10 mm per kilogram of sample”, says the new regulation signed this week in Brasilia.

During this period, “DIPOA will officially notify SENASA when the establishments, whose shipments exceed this rejection limit, but the establishments will not enter the Import Alert Regime – RAI”, they clarify while indicating that “the other re-inspection actions are still valid”.

Subject to modifications

The animal health agency of the neighboring country adds that “the establishments that are already in RAI, due to the detection of parasites in frozen hake from Argentina, since August 2021, will have suspended the RAI, until there is a technical definition. Your next shipments will be subject to the criteria indicated in paragraphs 4 and 5”, refers here to the parameters of parasites allowed per millimeter of kilogram of sample. Finally, it is emphasized that the announced guidelines may be modified during this period.
