The China Pelagic Squid Index, which includes the squid price index, industry prosperity index, and squid resource abundance index, provides a comprehensive overview of the squid industry and pelagic fishery trends through detailed, dynamic data.
It gathers squid transaction prices from major domestic squid fishing companies and the Zhoushan Aquatic Products Trading Center. The index is compiled based on statistics from various specifications across four key regions: the Southeast Pacific, Southwest Atlantic, Northwest Pacific, and Indian Ocean. This data reflects the changing trends in domestic squid prices and offers valuable insights into the industry's overall development.

The fishing season in the southwest Atlantic Ocean ended around May-June in the first half of the year, and since then, market transactions have all come from inventory products. According to Argentine fishery statistics, in early November, the demand for squid had basically exhausted the existing inventory, and the adjustment of supply and demand pushed the monthly price index up, closing at 209.48 points, up 1.48% month-on-month.

Based on the technical report of the National Fisheries Development Institute (INIDEP) and the successful experience of early fishing in the past few seasons, the Argentine Federal Fisheries Commission (CFP) passed a resolution on November 14, 2024, announcing that the 2025 squid fishing season will start early on January 10, 2025 in the area south of 44 degrees south latitude.
FIS publishes weekly (every Friday) each of the 4 species recorded in the Squid Index.
