Tuesday, October 15, 2024, 01:00 (GMT + 9)

A good week for NVG herring, while the mackerel fishing is good.

Norwegian Spawning Herring (NVG):

It was a good week for Norwegian spring-spawning herring with a total of 12,468 tonnes registered. Fishing has taken place between Lopphavet and Kvænangen and more boats are expected to participate in this fishing in the future.

Mackerel:

Mackerel fishing continued with good catches. A total of 14,472 tonnes were reported, with an average weight of around 420 grams. There was great variation in size, from 315 to 480 grams. The quota has now been fished, and at the time of writing there are only 4-5 boats in the field. There has also been some coastal fishing of mackerel, but this is also in the process of decreasing.

North Sea herring:

Five boats reported a total of 350 tonnes of North Sea herring last week.

Coastal sprat:

40 tonnes of coastal sprat were caught from Vestervik in the Sognefjord, which is used for canning.

Sprat, blue whiting and horse mackerel:

In the southern parts of the North Sea, 1,450 tonnes of sprat were caught, which have been used for meal and oil. 30 tonnes of blue whiting have also been caught and three boats have reported 7.8 tonnes of horse mackerel.

Overall, week 41 shows good catches of several species, and an increased effort on NVG herring is expected in the coming weeks.
