The Minister of Production, José Rogger Incio Sánchez, said that fishing and aquaculture generate 2.6 million jobs in Latin America and the Caribbean, it was during the inauguration of the XVII Ordinary Meeting of the Small-Scale, Artisanal and Fisheries Commission. "These activities increasingly contribute to food security, rural employment and territorial development in Latin America and the Caribbean, generating foreign exchange for the economy of various countries, as well as more than 2.6 million direct jobs," said the head of Produce.

Likewise, he promoted the joint proposal of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean to declare the year 2022 as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture.

During the event, the representatives of the participating countries elected by vote the Peruvian Minister of Production, José Incio Sánchez, as pro tempore president of the commission for the next two years.

“The celebration of the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture should be understood as the deserved recognition of artisanal fishermen, small-scale aquaculturists and workers in the fisheries and aquaculture food system, for their hard work in providing nutritious food. to the population, thus contributing to achieving zero hunger ”, he concluded.
