Anfaco-Cecytma and the Consellería do Mar launch a strategic plan for canned seafood in 2026

The agreement will mobilize nearly €400,000 to curb the decline in consumption and attract young audiences through gastronomic events and festivals
Vigo – The organization Anfaco-Cecytma and the Consellería do Mar of the Xunta de Galicia have formalized an ambitious collaboration agreement for the 2026 fiscal year. The project seeks to strengthen the positioning of canned and processed seafood products through a total investment of €396,880, focusing on competitiveness and promotion both in Spain and in international markets.
Main Pillars of the Collaboration
The program is broken down into several lines of action designed to modernize the industry's image and bring it closer to new generations:

Competitiva 360: A cycle of technical sessions on international trade, sustainability, and digitalization to provide companies with strategic tools.

From Sea to Palate (Del mar al paladar): A gastronomic promotion initiative including showcookings and workshops at fairs and educational centers.

Connecting with Youth: An innovative presence at music festivals to promote the nutritional value of canned goods among younger consumers.

International Expansion: Group participation in world-class events such as Madrid Fusión, Gulfood (Dubai), Alimentaria, Seafood Expo Global, PLMA Amsterdam, and SIAL Paris.

Digital Strategy: Campaigns with content creators specializing in nutrition, health, and sports to improve visibility on social media.

Responding to the Consumption Challenge
The signing of this agreement comes at a critical time due to the decline in seafood consumption, affected by inflation. Anfaco-Cecytma argues that, in addition to these promotions, it is necessary to move toward healthy taxation for the sector.
This public-private alliance is thus presented as the necessary engine to guarantee the future sustainability of this strategic industry for Galicia.
