Farming facilities in Wando, within Jeonnam Province, as well as on Jeju Island, have reported massive mortalities of olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus), raising concerns over the supply of fresh seafood and applying strong pressure on authorities to expand aid and modify the aquaculture insurance system.

In the locality of Wando, one of the most affected farms recorded the loss of more than 30,000 flounder from an approximate inventory of 70,000 fish, representing a mortality rate exceeding 40%. Thermal measurements in the area confirmed that sea water temperatures reached between 27 °C and 28 °C, critical levels for the survival of this species.
Meanwhile, on Jeju Island, six facilities located in Daejeong district officially reported the death of 32,995 fish.
