Russian salmon fishing season 2024: Far Eastern fishermen caught more than 215 thousand tons

As of September 10, the catch of Pacific salmon in the Far East amounted to 215.4 thousand tons. At the final meeting of the headquarters, Rosrybolovstvo summed up the preliminary results of the 2024 fishing season.
The main contribution is traditionally made by Kamchatka fishermen - more than 129 thousand tons (60%). In Sakhalin, the catch is 39.1 thousand tons, in Chukotka - 304.6 tons.
Positive fishing dynamics are observed in the Khabarovsk Territory - over 36.4 thousand tons (+7.3 thousand tons or 125.0% compared to 2022), in the Magadan region - 8.7 thousand tons (+4.4 thousand tons or 201.8% compared to the level of 2022), in the Primorsky Territory - 1.8 thousand tons (+1.1 thousand tons or 263.7% compared to the level of 2022).
Structure of Pacific salmon catches:
- Pink salmon - more than 135.7 thousand tons,
- Sockeye salmon - almost 35.6 thousand tons,
- Chum salmon - more than 36.1 thousand tons,
- Coho salmon - more than 7.4 thousand tons,
- Chinook salmon - 320 tons
The active phase of salmon fishing has ended in Kamchatka and Chukotka, Magadan and Primorye.
At the headquarters meeting, issues of regulating industrial, amateur and traditional fishing of indigenous minorities in the Far East, as well as the work of scientific groups, measures for fish conservation and artificial reproduction of salmon species were discussed.
Deputy Director of Rosrybolovstvo Vasily Sokolov has ordered an analysis to be conducted and a report to be submitted to the Scientific and Fisheries Council of the Far East on the possible reasons for the significant discrepancy between forecasts and actual catches of salmon in certain areas this year.
