The sector consolidates the growth of five consecutive months, which corresponds to the increase in the capture of species destined for the canning, frozen and fishmeal industry.
The Ministry of Production (Produce) reported that in the month of October of this year the extractive activity of the fishing sector experienced an increase of 17.8%, in terms of volume, in relation to October 2021.
The head of Produce, Eduardo Mora Asnarán, explained that this result consolidates the growth of five consecutive months of fishing landings and responds to the increase in the capture of species destined for the canning, frozen and fishmeal industry.

In this way, the total landing of hydrobiological resources amounted to 104.1 thousand MT, being 15.7 thousand MT higher than what was registered in October 2021 (88.4 thousand MT).
Stand out
In the case of fishing for Direct Human Consumption (CHD), Produce reported that 103 thousand MT was registered, 18.2% higher (18.8 thousand MT) in relation to what was obtained in October last year (87.2 thousand MT).
"This corresponds to an increase in the fishing activities of the artisanal fishing activity, which has affected the positive performance of the unloading for the canned industry (+116.5%), frozen (+7.5%) and fresh (+12.1 %)”, highlighted Minister Mora Asnarán.

Among the main species that influenced the positive performance of CHD landings are: bonito (+539.5%), squid (+13.0%), shrimp (+9.6%) and hake (+26.4%).
Meanwhile, regarding the landing of anchovy for Indirect Human Consumption (CHI), it registered 1.1 thousand MT, meaning a reduction of 12.7% compared to the same month of the previous year. Said volume of anchovy used comes from discarding in the northern zone (Chimbote, Sechura and Santa). This result is due to the fact that no landings were recorded by the CHI fishing fleet in both the north-central zone (reproductive closure) and south.
