Catch of Iwasi sardine, mackerel and saury reached almost 306 thousand tons

By the end of November 2021, the total catch of iwashi sardines, mackerel and saury by Russian users amounted to almost 306 thousand tons.
The preliminary results of the fishery were discussed at this year's final meeting of the headquarters of the Federal Agency for Fishery for the production of pelagic fish species in the Far Eastern fishery basin, which took place in the Federal Agency for Fishery in the mode of videoconference with the Far Eastern territorial administrations.
The main share of the catch falls on iwashi sardine: 242 thousand tons were harvested. Sardine catches are still high due to the approaches of dense aggregations from the north. The catch of mackerel is 63 thousand tons, which is 54% or 22 thousand tons higher than the level of 2020, 594 tons of saury were harvested.
11 Russian vessels operate in the sardine and mackerel fishery. Fishing is carried out within the EEZ of Russia in the South Kuril Strait and south of the island. Shikotan along the Japanese EEZ border.
Currently, there are active migrations of mackerel and sardine to the south, however, in the east of the region, outside the Russian EEZ, vast water areas remain with favorable conditions for feeding these fish species.
Saury is fished by 2 Russian vessels.
According to the forecast of the Pacific branch of VNIRO, stormy weather is expected in the Yuzhno-Kurilsk region until December 3, and from December 4 the weather situation will improve and will be calm. The fishery is expected to continue for another two weeks.
