The Xunta de Galicia has declared Nueva Pescanova's new €16 million plant in Arteixo a Strategic Industrial Project (PIE), streamlining its construction and the creation of up to 75 direct jobs for an annual production of nearly 24,000 tons.

It also approved a key regulation for the transfer of live marine species, strengthening quality and control in the sector.

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA – The Consello da Xunta de Galicia has provided a dual boost to the region's seafood sector. Firstly, it has declared Nueva Pescanova's new seafood processing plant in Arteixo (A Coruña) a Strategic Industrial Project (PIE). Secondly, it has approved a new regulatory standard for the transfer of live marine species, responding to sector demand and European regulations.

Nueva Pescanova's upcoming plant, which will be the fifteenth PIE approved by the Xunta, represents an investment of around €16 million. It will be located across nine plots in phase C of the Morás industrial park, covering a total area of over 25,000 square meters. It will feature a main building of approximately 20,000 m² and its own wastewater treatment plant. This infrastructure will create between 50 and 75 direct jobs and will be equipped for comprehensive production, from sorting and cooking to freezing, packaging, and storage. The plant's production capacity is estimated to reach up to 23,900 tons of processed products annually.

The Nueva Pescanova Group processes its products in 17 processing plants spread across ten countries in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe. It is currently modernizing its fleet and infrastructure to comply with new environmental and technological regulations.

The Nueva Pescanova Group's factories use cutting-edge technology, maintaining continuous improvement, quality, and innovation as key pillars for the development of our industrial strategy.

In parallel, the Galician government has approved the new regulation for the transfer of marine species. This rule will provide the sector with an essential legal tool, ensuring quality and activity control for both fisheries administration and consumers. The Xunta emphasized that the market value of catches depends on them arriving alive and in optimal condition at the fish market for sale. The regulation will facilitate batch tracking through the identification of transfer operations, creating three key documents: a transfer declaration, a collection declaration, and a cancellation declaration.

With these measures, Galicia aims to streamline industrial investment and equip the fishing sector with tools that ensure traceability and quality, crucial elements for its competitiveness and development.
