Growth in processed foods and temperature-controlled logistics offsets declining sales from ongoing structural reforms in marine and meat businesses

Tokyo — Nichirei Corporation announced its consolidated financial results for the third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2026 (April–December 2025). While sales increased in the Processed Foods Business and the Temperature-controlled Logistics Business, the impact of structural reforms in the Marine Products Business and the Meat and Poultry Business resulted in flat year-on-year consolidated net sales.

For the cumulative third-quarter period, consolidated net sales remained at approximately 700 billion yen, while operating profit declined by 1.2 billion yen compared with the same period of the previous year. However, operating profit in the third quarter alone exceeded the previous year’s level, marking a return to growth, according to the company.

By segment, the Temperature-controlled Logistics Business performed steadily both domestically and overseas. In Japan, sales expanded through the capture of storage and transportation demand, particularly in metropolitan areas. Overseas, operations in the United Kingdom remained stable, and despite delays in the launch of a new facility in Radomsko, Poland, the segment recorded a year-on-year increase of 2.8 billion yen in operating profit.

In contrast, the Processed Foods Business faced pressure from higher raw material costs for rice, chicken, and eggs, as well as increased sales promotion expenses, resulting in a decline of approximately 3.0 billion yen in operating profit. While the effects of price revisions were partially realized, they were insufficient to fully offset rising costs.

In the Marine Products Business, sales declined due to the reduction of low-margin products, but operating profit increased, driven by expanded sales of high-value-added products such as shrimp and fish roe. The Meat and Poultry Business saw a significant drop in sales amid structural reforms, leading to a 0.4 billion yen decrease in operating profit.

Regarding its full-year outlook, the company stated that it will maintain the forecast revised in the second quarter. For the fiscal year ending March 2026, consolidated net sales are projected at 700 billion yen, operating profit at 39.5 billion yen, and profit attributable to owners of parent at 28.0 billion yen, reflecting an expected record high driven by gains from the sale of investment securities.

Looking ahead, Nichirei Corporation stated that it will position the Temperature-controlled Logistics Business as a core growth driver while strengthening the profitability of its food businesses, aiming for sustainable growth beyond fiscal 2027.
