Next September, the fishing vessel “Río Solís IV”, owned by the Uruguayan company Belnova, will set sail for the southern fishing grounds from Montevideo (Uruguay). It will replace the veteran “Ila”, currently “Río Solís III”, in service since 1969, possibly one of the last freezer trawlers built in ASCON that are still in service.
Belnova, once a subsidiary of Pescanova and currently owned by a group of Galician shipowners, including Frigoríficos del Morrazo and Pesqueras de Bon, which have more than 50%, acquired the Faroe Islands freezer trawler “Sjúrðarberg” (KG 184) last March.
The broker Atlantic Shipping acted as intermediary and after its mooring at the Morrazo refrigerator dock in Cangas, it has been at the Nodosa shipyard for its conversion and adaptation for its new stage. The companies Kinarca, responsible for the renovation of industrial refrigeration facilities, and Josmar, specialised in fishing parks, have been involved in the refurbishment.
Ex “Dorado”, ex “Polonus”, ex “Akraberg”, ex “Beinir”-, ex “Skalafjall”, built in the Skála shipyard, in the Faroe Islands, it entered service in 1987.
Weighing 1,805 gross tons and 2,491 tons of deadweight, it measures 60.33 m in length and 13 m in width. It is powered by a Wärtsila 9RD32 engine, with 4,556 horsepower and maintains a speed of 15 knots. IMO code 8802571.
Proximar Seafood AS has announced the confirmation of its first slaughter date, set for September 30, marking a significant milestone for the company. In addition, Proximar has secured two new loan agreements totaling 1 billion Japanese yen (approximately NOK 75 million or USD 7.07 million). The loans will provide the company with working capital and act as a liquidity buffer to support its operations as it moves forward with production.
These developments reflect Proximar's steady progress toward becoming a key player in land-based aquaculture in Asia.

The coast guard is looking into the possibility that the boat capsized after it collided with a tanker carrying petroleum products based on testimony that the tanker was witnessed passing nearby the fishing vessel at the time of the incident.
A coast guard official said the identity of the deceased foreign crewmember has yet to be identified, adding that an investigation will be conducted on the incident once the survivors get treated for injuries.

Norway’s fisheries minister Marianne Sivertsen Næss has rejected a call to seasonally adjust the maximum biomass allowed on salmon farms.
Some farmers would like an increase in maximum biomass (MTB) in the autumn, and a reduction in spring.
Geir Magne Knutsen, head of strategy and development at Bremnes Seashore, has previously pointed out that this would mean a smoother harvest curve during the season, benefiting the market.
