Pubs across the UK are being forced to adapt, as they are hit by a financial triple whammy of soaring food prices, rising energy costs and the impact of the cost of living crisis.
One step being taken by the Young’s pub chain, which runs around 200 venues in the UK, has been forced to drop salmon from its menu, picking the cheaper option of trout to serve to its customers due to the sky high cost of the fish.

The Argentine shrimp fishery has received, in recent days, several "positive news": the National Institute for Fisheries Research and Development (Inidep) developed a limit reference point; the Federal Fisheries Council incorporated an abundance criterion in the decision to open and close zones; and the Undersecretary of Fisheries, through its Supervision Directorate, achieved almost total coverage in the inspections of the unloading, with barely 6% of them presenting some type of infraction, explains CeDePesca, which, for this reason, affirms that the certification of the resource is "closer".

In the recently launched Integrated Sustainability Report, BioMar announces its commitment to the 1.5°C pathway for reducing carbon emissions. BioMar is the first global aquafeed supplier to adopt the 1.5°C pathway toward net-zero under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The IPCC has stated that greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions need to halve by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050 to avoid the worst effects of climate change.
The future direction of Scotland’s fish farming sector is being discussed today at the first meeting of the Scottish Aquaculture Council, chaired by Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon.
The Council is the result of a Scottish Government-commissioned report into aquaculture regulation by Professor Russel Griggs and is partly an attempt to improve relations between fish farmers and government agencies

Ukrainian refugees are asking Norway to stop Russian trawlers from landing fish into Norwegian ports, but the government will not intervene according to a news report from E24.
Norway has allowed over €96m/£83m worth of cod to be landed from Russian fishing boats since the Russian invasion of Ukraine begun on 24 February this year, according to the Norwegian Raw Fish Association.

With over 2,500 tonnes of kanpachi (Seriola dumerili) due to be harvested from their Panamanian farm in the coming 12 months, as well as additional offshore sites in Indonesia and Brazil currently under development, Forever Oceans is set to become one of the largest truly offshore aquaculture producers in the world.

The shipowners of Europêche and the European Association of Producer Organizations (AEOP) once again denounced Norway's attitude in the mackerel market, since 434,026 tonnes were allocated between them, almost 55% of the total. "It is unacceptable", censures the Europêche employers' association
Norway and Faroe have done it again. For the second consecutive year, the two countries have decided to take over an important part of the mackerel quota, a species that extends throughout the Atlantic coast from the Barents Sea to Morocco.
Food Export Northeast, a nonprofit organization aimed at assisting companies in the Northeast United States with building up their export markets, is leading a trade mission to Europe for shellfish growers.
The mission, according to Food Export Northeast, will consist of visits to Yerske, The Netherlands and Paris, France in September. The goal is to expand the market for U.S. shellfish growers hoping to export live shellfish.

The Scottish Salmon Company’s Native Hebridean Smoked Salmon has been shortlisted in the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2022. The star product, which has already won national and international awards, is a contender in the Artisan Product and the Fish & Seafood Product categories.
The Scottish Salmon Company’s operations were recently rebranded as Bakkafrost Scotland.
Sutherlands of Portsoy has also been shortlisted in the Fish & Seafood category, for its Cold Smoked Steelhead Trout.
Last week it was announced that the institutional investor Yarra Capital sold a share block of just under five percent of its shares in Tasmania-based Tassal Group. Australian media have speculated that the buyer, of the 10.1 million Tassal shares, was dealmaker David Williams.
Melbourne-based Williams was the one who originally listed Tassal on the stock market, and it has been speculations regarding a comeback for Williams.

Current Foods, a start-up that provides plant-based tuna and salmon, has raised $18 million (£14.7m) to support its smoked salmon launch into retail, expansion into the Japanese market, and continued product refinement.
San Francisco-based Current Foods, formerly called Kuleana (the Hawaiian word for “responsibility”), already sells plant-based tuna products, primarily to food service and fine dining customers, and presented its sliced smoked salmon analogue to the world at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York last week.
