Trident Seafoods moves closer to EU market

Seafood processor Trident Seafoods Corp. has decided to expand its business operations through the purchase of a German processing facility to process Alaska-caught seafood in Europe.

Once the acquisition procedure finishes, the new German processing facility -- Pickenpack Vertriebs and The Seafood Traders, located in German city of Riepe -- will offer Trident the opportunity to expand its business in Europe, where it has sold fish for more than 30 years, Puget Sound Business Journal reported.

“The opportunity to move closer to the European market is one we have dreamed about for a long time," pointed out Trident CEO Joe Bundrant, in a statement. “We take great pride in this accomplishment.”

The CEO explained that for 43 years they have been focused on vertical integration and that Trident can now offer European customers the assurance of full control of their product supply chain at a time when transparency is becoming increasingly important to consumers.

“’From the Source to the Plate’ is not only our motto but a fundamental value at Trident. The company we acquired today has long been a major user and marketer of single-frozen wild Alaska pollock, and this is a logical fit for us,” Bundrant stressed.

Seattle-based Trident is Washington’s largest seafood company, with revenue of USD 2.6 billion and 6,000 employees around the world, according to Business insights Global.

The Genuine Alaska Pollock® trademark is a product of a consortium of the Seattle area’s largest fish processors. The sustainability has been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).

“Genuine Alaska Pollock® is a staple of German fish consumption and it has been recognized by consumers for its superior quality, sustainability and traceability,” Bundrant concluded.
