Mowi's approach extends the freshwater phase in specialized post-smolt facilities. This enhances fish health, reduces sea exposure by up to six months, and improves biological KPIs.

Prolonged freshwater rearing yields healthier, more resilient salmon, improving product quality and their ability to withstand open sea conditions. It also reduces the company's environmental impact, contributing to long-term sustainability.

Its Nordheim hatchery in Norway exemplifies this commitment, utilizing advanced technology for land-based smolt rearing in controlled environments before sea transfer.

In Scotland, salmon are transferred from indoor freshwater tanks to net pens in freshwater lochs, closer to shore, for continued growth before sea deployment. This provides enhanced protection for smaller salmon.
