The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is the world’s leading certification scheme for farmed seafood
From May 2 the French will only consume imported fish according to the ASC
(FRANCE, 4/5/2022)
If only locally produced fish were consumed in France, the shelves would be empty in May, warns the ASC organization defending sustainable aquaculture.
Monday, May 2, 2022 marks the day from which France would depend solely on imports for its fish consumption, according to the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). In ten years, this date has fallen by 11 days, a significant decline which testifies to a growing dependence on imports.
France is 66% dependent on imports for its seafood products (Source: FranceAgriMer. Figures in live weight equivalent).
The ASC considers that aquaculture represents 52% of the world's fish production and that sustainable aquaculture, which it certifies, is a solution to the overexploitation of the seas.
