Peruza autofeeder for pelagic fish | Reduce your cost of nobbing: Replace 8-10 workers

Create more added value from Fish Improving Efficiency with the Peruza Automatic Fish Feeder

  (LATVIA, 10/7/2021)

Eighteen months have now passed since the COVID-19 pandemic completely closed entire swathes of the European economy. Despite the most draconian restrictions having now been lifted, many industries still haven’t completely recovered from the effects of quarantines and restrictions on movement — not to mention the changes in consumer habits and an increasing focus on sustainability.

For the European fish processing industry, these widespread upheavals come at a time where the entire sector is already attempting to meet the challenges presented by low-cost imports from China, Vietnam and other Far-Eastern countries — a problem that is almost certainly going to require greater centralization and a reliance on technology to improve efficiencies in order to compete with cheap overseas labour.

Peruza Rises to the Challenge

Latvian company Peruza has been in business for over 30 years, and today offers some of the most advanced modular fish processing solutions on the market. One of the company’s products, an Autofeeder for pelagic fish, gives fish processing plants huge advantages in both efficiency and speed:

The Peruza Automatic Fish Feeder

The automatic fish feeder is a modular piece of equipment designed to quickly and efficiently distribute pelagic fish to other pieces of equipment, such as cutting and nobbing machines.

Peruza’s autofeeder removes the need for large lines of human workers, replacing 4-5 employees with a single supervisor, avoiding many of the occupational hazards inherent to this type of work, such as the dangers that can arise from the stroboscopic effect of the conveyor belts on production line workers.

How the Autofeeder Works

A single worker fills the main hopper tank with fish, which are slowly and evenly lifted and fed into a head-tail orientation unit. At this point, fish are sorted into the correct orientation, then sent through a series of conveyor belts to ensure they’re correctly separated and synchronized.

Once the fish have been sorted, they are fed into individual pockets on the final conveyor belt, ready to be processed by gutting or filleting machines.

Improvements in Efficiency

The Peruza automatic fish feeder can process all kinds of pelagic fish, including sardines, mackerel and herring. When the autofeeder is attached to a pocket cutting machine, a production line can process between 500-700 fish per minute, bringing huge gains in efficiency - especially when the entire process can be supervised and operated by a single person.

Peruza designed autofeeders are compatible with many types of cutting machines, and their easy operation and fast turnaround times mean that factories can not only enjoy huge increases in efficiency and productivity, but also fast payback times on the initial outlay of the machinery.
