The National Saury Stick-Held Dip Net Fishing Cooperative (Zen-Sanma) is a specialized organization established in June 1998 under the Fisheries Industry Cooperative Association Law. It represents fishermen licensed to operate within the designated Pacific Saury Pole-Holding Net Fishery. The Cooperative plays a critical role in guiding its members and ensuring sustainable and efficient fishing practices through a range of domestic and international activities.
Core Activities:
Domestic Fisheries Management:
Implements Total Allowable Catch (TAC) management measures to ensure sustainable harvesting of Pacific saury.
Operates under the guidance of the TAC Committee in alignment with the Agreement on the Conservation and Management of Pacific Saury.
International Fisheries Coordination:
Manages applications and regulatory compliance for fishing permits in Russian waters, along with fulfilling related reporting obligations.
Conducts pre-operation meetings with Russian authorities to prevent disruptions to fishing activities.
Addresses multilateral fisheries agreements and treaties to maintain orderly international fishing operations.
Through these efforts, the Cooperative supports the responsible stewardship of Pacific saury resources, while navigating the complexities of both domestic and international fishing environments.
