In France, the fishing industry is unique due to the variety of fishing practices, species caught and the players that make it up. Reflecting this diversity, France Terre de Pêches is a group of more than 1,000 fishing companies, which employ more than 5,500 fishermen at sea and feed more than 10 million French people. Formed in 2024 at the initiative of producer organizations, France Terre de Pêches intends to share with the French the commitments and realities of fishermen, and to bring the voice of the field to the public debate.
Our action is based on 3 convictions:
1. Fishing companies in France offer quality products, fished by professionals who are passionate about the sea and respectful of the environment,
2. Fishing companies in France act for food sovereignty and will continue to do so tomorrow,
3. The fishing industry in France is based on professions and know-how at the heart of the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems, which future generations must take hold of.
Our aim is to present our professions and to expose the reality of our industry, its functioning, its practices and its players. We want to explain and make known the economic, environmental and human issues surrounding fishing today, and which we are trying to address to guarantee the existence of sustainable fishing, able to fulfill its essential mission: to feed populations.
