The Far East Crab Catchers Association was established in 2009. Today, the association's members include 14 companies specializing in crab fishing in the Far Eastern and Northern fishery basins. The total volume of crab quotas for the association's members for 2020 is 38,700 tons, which is 44% of the all-Russian volume of crab quotas, and for the most valuable commercial species (Kamchatka crab, blue crab, opilio snow crab, bairdi snow crab and equal-spined crab), this share is 48%.
The association's members fish in 12 fishing areas of Russian seas and catch 7 main commercial species of crab. The main industry is industrial fishing of snow crab opilio, blue crab and snow crab bairdi, also caught are Kamchatka crab, equal-spined crab, red snow crab and snow crab angulatus.
The association's activities are aimed at interaction with government bodies and scientific organizations in the field of preserving Russian crab stocks and their rational exploitation based on the principles of sustainable fishing.
