The Organization of Fisheries Producers of Lugo is one of the first OPPs that were established in Spain in 1986 on the occasion of the entry into the European Economic Community (EEC) and for the correct implementation of the Common Fisheries Policies (PCP) in our fleets. . More than 30 years have passed since then and Lugo is today an exceptional example of the evolution and modernization experienced in the fishing sector, a strategic sector in the Galician economy.
The main functions of our organization are:
• representation of the partners before the fisheries administrations,
• Provision of fisheries management and advisory services to partners,
• participation in fishing organizations and institutions,
• Execution of the major objectives of the PCP through the annual obligation to carry out a Production and Marketing Plan.
It is currently made up of vessels from 4 fleet modalities, 2 in international fishing grounds: surface longline in North and South Atlantic waters, bottom longline in European Union fishing grounds, and 2 in national fishing grounds: bottom trawling and artisanal purse seine in the Cantabrian and northwest fishing grounds.
The main fishing species, by volume of catches and sales, as well as by tradition, are skewered hake and northern tuna.
