The original Loch Duart site we operate is the oldest salmon farm in Sutherland, dating back to 1975. Today we farm the whole of Eddrachillies Bay - a total of nine sites, employing around 60 local people but, due to extensive fallowing, with only six in operation at any one time. Salmon rearing is the prime occupation of many of the people of Scourie and is vital to the economy. Loch Duart is now farming in the Hebrides, providing valuable jobs in an area where the population is declining.
We produce approximately 3600 tonnes per annum through a fully-integrated system designed to maximise the health of our stocks. This equates to around 2.5% of total Scottish production and is distributed in UK and overseas markets to discerning customers seeking better quality salmon from responsible and sustainable aquaculture. We have developed a polyculture programme which involves the cultivation of sea urchins and seaweed alongside our salmon - for nutrient balancing and commercial reasons.
