May 2004 - Trident announces takoever of Norquest Seafoods
The Seattle-based companies are two of the largest seafood packers in Alaska. They operate processing plants in several coastal towns around the state and, at the top of the summer salmon season, employ thousands of workers to clean and pack the fish. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. John Garner, the top shareholder in Norquest, said the Trident takeover will allow the companies to combine their different product lines and compete better in the global seafood market.
NorQuest will keep its brand and operate as a Trident subsidiary, Garner said. No plant closures or worker cutbacks are planned for the summer, when millions of spawning salmon return to Alaska rivers.
