Marel Food Systems acquired Carnitech A/S in 1997. Carnitech was founded in Jutland, Denmark, in 1981 by six enterprising young men.

Carnitech had established itself as a leader in equipping large shrimp trawlers with on-board processing equipment and eventually became a leading international supplier of food processing equipment and systems.

In the salmon processing industry, Carnitech Salmon is a global leader, with the acquisition of CP Food Machinery A/S in 2002 and GEBA in 2004.
