OPNAPA is the National Organisation of Deep Sea Longline Producers, an organisation that was established this year and which has as its members companies that shipowners of surface longline vessels from all over the national territory that fish swordfish, tuna and sharks.
In 2021, both organisations decided to dissolve and create a Producers Organisation as this allows them to undertake actions within the Production and Marketing plans that would not be possible under the legal form of an Association.
ARPOAN
It dates back to 1981 and included surface longline vessels that kept their catches refrigerated and fresh. This association was established by the pioneer shipowners of this fishery, being the first association that defended the interests of the companies that carried out this fishery.
ANAPA
With the expansion towards more distant fishing grounds that occurred in this fleet, the vessels began to equip themselves to bring their catches frozen as they came from longer distances. This is why ANAPA was established in 1988, bringing together surface longline vessels that brought in their frozen catches.
