AquaChile and Cermaq lead salmon exports

Chile exported a total of 98,588 tonnes of salmon in the first two months of this year, which reflects a loss of 17 per cent over the same two months of 2013, when 119,889 tonnes were shipped abroad.
These exports generated returns of USD 758 million, 35 per cent more than in the same period last year (USD 558 million).
According to a report issued by InfoTrade for Aqua, the average price during the first two months stood at USD 7.69/kg.
Between January and February this year, Empresas AquaChile - grouping AquaChile, Salmones Chiloé, Salmones Maullín and Aguas Claras – ranked first in terms of returns, with sales for USD 111.4 million.
Cermaq Chile ranked second, with revenues for USD 91.4 million and Marine Harvest was in third place, with revenues for USD 58.5 million.
In addition, they were followed by the companies Los Fiordos with revenues for USD 56 million; Granja Marina Tornagaleones for USD 40.3 million; Camanchaca for USD 33.5 million; and Salmones Blumar for USD 32.1 million.
Further back Multiexport was located with salmon exports for USD 29.7 million; Salmones Humboldt with exports for USD 29.5 million; and Australis Mar with shipments abroad for USD 22.3 million.
Up to February 2014, export volumes of the major salmon companies were:
- AquaChile: 14,241 tonnes;
- Cermaq Chile: 12,586 tonnes;
- Los Fiordos: 7,954 tonnes.
