For several weeks, employees of the administrative office of Conservas Garavilla in Vilaxoan have been working in the plant located in O Grove.
And so will 18 female employees in the production area, that is, women who clean fish at Conservas Cuca from Monday.
The next step of Garavilla’s entrepreneurs is to start moving the machinery to the factory of O Grove.
According to the president of the company Board, Maria Jose Rey, employees willing to keep their jobs must follow this order.
"They are very upset and don’t want to go, but there’s no other way," said Rey.
The workers protested on Friday in front of the administrative building of the Xunta de Galicia, in Santiago, and on Wednesday, they will take their demonstrations to the local administration, the newspaper Faro de Vigo informed.
The cannery management says, "The company continues taking the envisaged steps for the completion of the transfer as soon as possible."
In addition, it ensures that the transfer of production "answered exclusively industrial reasons."
In addition, the company claims that the production of canned items marketed under Cuca brand "will benefit from the complementarity of common services, better use of raw materials and of having more modern and flexible facilities, which allow increased production when required by the market," Diario de Pontevedra reported.
Garavilla management accuses "some union representatives" to be "economically damaging workers, depriving the process of direct information to employees, misinforming about the real intentions of the company, and refusing to negotiate aspects of interest for employees".
One such aspect "is the transport system to O Grove or a possible financial compensation of the transfer," it added, according to La Voz de Galicia newspaper.
