The managers of the companies Invertec Pesquera Mar de Chiloé (Invermar) and Pesquera Yadrán SA decided to sell their fish feed manufacturing firm Salmofood SA to the Peruvian company Alicorp.

The transaction was completed on 24 May and marks the entrance of a firm from Peru into the Chilean salmon industry, as rumor had it recently in the fishing business sector in the region.

According to Invermar general manager, Andrés Parodi, "Together with Pesquera Yadrán SA and Real Estate, Consulting and Development Degán Limited, it has been agreed to sell 100 per cent of the shares issued by Salmofood SA to a subsidiary firm of the Peruvian partnership Alicorp SAA, which on the closing date will be established for a total of USD 62 million."

In its capacity as owner of 50 per cent of Salmofood, Invermar will receive USD 31 million for the sale, the executive added.

"The operation settlement is subject to the negotiation and agreement of the contracts that are specific to this type of operations, as well as the settlement of other contracts and agreements that are supplementary to the transaction," Parodi added in the document sent to the Superintendent of Securities and Insurance (SVS).

As soon as the operation takes place, there will be a consolidated extraordinary financial income of approximately USD 9.5 million for Invermar, he added.

Salmofood is a firm dedicated to producing and marketing fish feed and its headquarters is located in the city of Castro, on Chiloé Island (Los Lagos Region).

It owns 11 per cent of the food market for salmon in Chile, Aqua reported. In turn, these activities are related to Animal Nutrition Department in Alicorp.

Currently, the Peruvian company focuses on producing food for shrimp and exports it to China.

Alicorp is one of the largest industrial companies in Peru, which has subsidiaries in Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Honduras.

Between January and March, 2012 products were sold for USD 368 million.
