Two plants of the company Pesquera Coloso, located in the VIII Region, remain nonoperational since 27 February, when an earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck several areas of the country. One of the plants, however, may be reactivated in another two weeks.
According to Domingo Jimenez, general manager of the company, the Coronel factory, where canned, frozen products and fishmeal are elaborated, “still has its operational activities interrupted,” Diario Financiero reports.
"Total damage and launch date are under evaluation,” the Coloso executive added.
Meanwhile, the plant located in the bay of San Vicente, in Talcahuanoa, though not affected significantly by the seismic event, is estimated “to require an additional 15 days to resume operations” in its facilities for fishmeal and fish oil production, Jimenez indicated.
In terms of the fishing fleet, Colossus informed that it did not sustain damage from the earthquake. Unloadings are taking place in Coquimbo, as are fish sales to third parties with landings in Montt Port.
In any case, the company clarified that the economic consequences of the earthquake have not yet been assessed in the remaining the plants; and that it is insured against damage and loss due to the paralysation of activities.
Meanwhile, the company Indura was another of the companies that updated their situation post-earthquake.
At the moment, provisions to clients and their plants is operational, with the exception of the carbonic anhydrase plant located in Hualpen, due to the absence of raw material supply in the area.
The preliminary figure on damages sustained by the earthquake is USD 3 million, Indura clarified.
