Sunday, April 28, 2024
India was the 12th main destination for Brazilian agricultural exports last year, with shipments of US$2.9 billion
Brazil will be able to export farmed fish (aquaculture) and captured fish (extractive fishing) to India, the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement. The opening of the market was confirmed by Indian authorities to the Brazilian government this Friday.
In the note, the ministry recalled that the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro (in the photo), met with the Minister of Fisheries, Livestock and Dairy of India, Kamala V Rao, in November last year. Last year, India also authorized the import of Brazilian açaí powder and açaí juice.
In the first quarter of this year, Brazil exported more than 12 thousand tons of fish to around 90 countries, with revenue of US$ 193 million, 160% more in the annual comparison. “We remain committed to expanding the presence of Brazilian agricultural products on shelves around the world. This strategy not only opens up more international opportunities for our products and demonstrates confidence in our health control system, but also strengthens the domestic economy”, said Mapa's Secretary of Commerce and International Relations, Roberto Perosa, in the note.
During the year, Brazil accumulates 30 market openings for agricultural products.

Although algae cultivation in Chile is a reality, production is still very low. Much of the potential surface area for algae production is still unexploited. These characteristics, together with growing seaweed exports, the need for imports in the industrial sector, and seasonal and fluctuating production, suggest a high potential for small-scale seaweed aquaculture in Chile; However, the sector remains underexploited.
It is in this context that a group of researchers from the University of Biobío, the University of Concepción, the University of Florida and (INCAR) have investigated the potential of algae cultivation considering the high incidence of risk for its low production.

The fishing sector wants a real commitment to be made, from all decision-making bodies, that allows its future to be guaranteed without having to be in the trenches of resistance watching how actions are taken against it. This premise has been made known at the XXXI Expomar Technical Conference, under the motto: Against Wind & Tide. "The sector cannot take it all" was the most striking phrase of the traditional meeting of shipowners, fed up with remaining "in a situation of risk of rupture and of no turning back."
A total of 25 associations, organizations, brotherhoods and entities from the extractive fishing sector participated in the XXV Business Meeting of Fishing Organizations
The Global Tuna Alliance (GTA) has announced a surge of support from French retailers, marking a monumental step in their mission to drive global change in tuna fisheries. This support comes as they kick off their Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) campaign, aiming to transform the Regional Fisheries Management Organization (RFMO) and enhance sustainable practices within the industry.
The 76-day closure of the track resulted in losses nearing $370 million for fish transport alone.

The year 2024 augurs change for fish farming in Paca: two new concessions have been awarded by the state services, reports Produit de la Mer.
Decisions rare enough to be noted, the fish farming sector bringing together less than ten producers. Among them, are a majority of artisans. This is the case of Jérémy Vantouroux, 26, who obtained a 5,000 square meter concession at the end of 2021 located in Lazaret Bay, in the Var. He aims to produce between 5 and 7 tonnes of sea bass (sea bass), sea bream, and lean meat each year to sell to individuals and restaurateurs. “When I saw that a colleague had managed to obtain his concession in 2020, I said to myself ‘Why not me’ ”,he says.
This type of installation is very rare for several reasons. There is a lack of maritime space in coastal areas. This is why the Dirm (interregional sea directorate) is currently revising the regional aquaculture development plan which makes it possible to identify areas suitable for aquaculture. Setting up represents a very heavy financial cost, especially since the growth period of the fry is long (it takes three years to start marketing).
Aquafrais Cannes, a market leader in the region, is also at a turning point in its history. The company obtained a new concession of 24,000 square meters a few months ago, which should allow it to double its production within two years, going from 600 to 1,200 tonnes produced per year.
Sentenced to prison for abetting murder the large fishing businessman Oleg Kan is wanted in a murder case; he is also accused of smuggling worth RUB 2.6 billion. Lawyers reported that he had died and asked to close the case. The prosecution called this statement false
On the 7th, defense attorneys for Oleg Kang, who was sentenced to 17 years in prison for his role in the murder of a businessman in 2010, filed an appeal against the sentence. Multiple Russian media outlets reported on the same day.
The death of businessman Oleg Kan, known as the “crab king,” was staged. This was stated by a representative of the Prosecutor General's Office during a meeting of the arbitration court on the department's claim against Kan and several other fishing owners.
The Prosecutor General's Office indicated that the registry offices of St. Petersburg and the Sakhalin region presented the same certificates stating that Kan's death was not registered. In addition, relatives did not contact the registry office, although the law requires filing a statement about the death of a person if it becomes known.
In February 2020, the Khabarovsk Regional Court granted the investigation's request to arrest Oleg Kan in absentia. The entrepreneur was accused of organizing the contract murder of businessman Valery Phidenko in 2010.
In the second criminal case, which was sent to the court of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Oleg Kan is accused of organizing a criminal community, smuggling live crab to Japan.
