Marine Harvest cuts jobs in Scotland
(UNITED KINGDOM, 1/26/2018)
Fish farming company Marine Harvest confirmed they will dismiss 34 employees from its Scottish staff.
Most of the staff that will be made redundant are part of the farm the Norwegian multinational company owns on the west coast of the Scotland, where they expect a lower salmon harvest this year. hey will also cut jobs across its fish processing division.
"We are working with the various agencies and will do everything we can to find alternative employment for those who will be losing their jobs", said Steve Bracken, business support manager at Marine Harvest.
Last October, the company reported they suspected that fish in its farms in Loch Erisort become infected with the bacterium pasteurella at the end of August, which resulted in the loss of 125,000 salmon.
Farms at nearby Tavay were not affected, and Marine Harvest assured that its 46 sea farms installed in Scotland were having an “excellent year”.
